About Youth Grow Activity

Launched in 2023, Youth Grow Activity (YGA) is a five-year US Government (USG)-funded initiative that aims to transform the economic trajectory of Jordan’s youth while strengthening resilient, opportunity-rich local systems to promote long-term stability and security. YGA reflects a growing strategic consensus: youth economic empowerment is no longer just a development objective; it is a tool for socioeconomic prosperity. YGA tackles the root causes of economic exclusion and youth unemployment—key drivers of social unrest, destabilized vulnerable communities, and brain drain and migration. By aligning local and national economic opportunities with shared regional and global strategic interests, YGA leverages economic empowerment as a force to foster resilient partnerships that help co-create future-ready systems.

Launched in 2023, Youth Grow Activity (YGA) is a U.S. Government-funded initiative working with national partners in Jordan to help youth build practical skills and connect to income opportunities, leading to stable communities in Jordan by supporting lawful work, productive routines, and positive engagement for youth themselves. The primary beneficiaries of YGA are youth aged 10 to 29. Additionally, YGA engages with key stakeholders including MOY, MODEE, CPF and AQACA, JREEF as well as private sector stakeholders. YGA activities are being implemented across all 12 governorates (Mafraq, Irbid, Ajloun, Jerash, Balqa, Amman, Zarqa, Madaba, Karak, Tafilah, Ma’an, Aqaba). YGA delivers structured upskilling programs, income-generating opportunities, and positive engagement through MOY centers and other national institutions. All of YGA's programs and activities are designed in alignment with Jordan's EMV and built to prepare a youth workforce capable of contributing to national priority sectors, including the National Conveyor Project and Jordan's growing digital economy.

The GIZ Jordan Project “Cash for Green Services” is seeking to hire a “Feedback & Complaints Mechanism Advisor – Cash for Work” based in Jordan- for full-time base employment.

Jordan continues to face pressure on municipal services in communities hosting large numbers of Syrian refugees. At the same time, Syrian refugees and vulnerable Jordanians face significant socio-economic challenges and limited income opportunities.

The aim of the project is to improve the living conditions of particularly vulnerable Syrian refugees and Jordanians, especially women and persons with disabilities, in selected municipalities in Jordan. At the same time, the project contributes to improving municipal solid waste management services.

The project supports the creation of temporary employment opportunities (Cash for Work, CfW) that generate income for Syrian refugees and vulnerable Jordanians. To this end, it cooperates with the Jordanian Ministry of Local Administration (MoLA) as its political partner.

The CfW opportunities are created in municipalities that host Syrian refugees. Partner municipalities are responsible for organising and implementing the CfW activities, while the project provides financial, technical and procedural support and strengthens municipal capacities. The CfW activities help municipalities address temporary personnel and resource constraints and improve municipal waste management services. They include, among others, cleaning of public areas as well as the collection, sorting and recycling of suitable materials.

By providing temporary income opportunities to Syrian refugees and vulnerable Jordanians and bringing participants from different backgrounds together in the workplace, the project also aims to contribute to social cohesion. Particular attention is given to the participation and inclusion of women and persons with disabilities. At the same time, the activities contribute to cleaner cities, improved recycling and environmental protection.

The project supports municipalities in integrating relevant improvements and approaches into their waste management planning to strengthen their sustainability beyond individual CfW rotations. In addition, the project advises municipalities and relevant waste management actors on organisation, operation and economic efficiency. Occupational health and safety, gender equality and social inclusion are considered throughout the implementation of CfW activities.

Senior Communications Strategy Consultant - Ministry of Youth

About Youth Grow Activity

Youth Grow Activity (YGA) is a U.S. Government-funded project working with national partners in Jordan to help youth aged 10-29 build practical skills and connect to income opportunities, leading to stable communities in Jordan by supporting lawful work, productive routines, and positive engagement for the youth themselves.

Background

Ministry of Youth Centers represent one of the most geographically distributed public interfaces between the GOJ and its youth population. When these centers function effectively, visibly, and consistently, they serve as trusted anchors and safe spaces for structured engagement, skill development, and constructive participation. To help MOY realize the full potential of its youth centers, YGA operates as a technical and advisory partner to the MOY, working closely with its technical and operational directorates to strengthen program design, refine delivery mechanisms, enhance monitoring and performance frameworks, and support strategic communication. In collaboration with MOY, YGA provides a wide range of programs that span sports, arts, music, and upskilling programs. Youth centers serve as the primary venues for these activities.
